Product Details
Key Aspects of a Wood's Lamp:
How it Works: The lamp emits blacklight (UV-A) through a special filter (nickel-oxide-doped glass) that blocks most visible light. When aimed at the skin, healthy skin appears blue, while infected areas, bacteria, or pigment changes glow (e.g., green for certain fungal infections).
- Common Medical Uses:
- Fungal Infections: Diagnosing tinea capitis (scalp ringworm) or Pityriasis versicolor.
- Pigmentation Disorders: Identifying vitiligo (white spots), melasma, or areas of sun damage.
- Bacterial Infections: Detecting Pseudomonas or Corynebacterium (erythrasma).
- Other Applications: Used in forensics, finding pet urine stains, inspecting artwork, and curing resin.
- Safety: While generally safe and non-invasive, it is a form of UV light. The test requires a dark room, and the lamp should be allowed to warm up.
